Scout guidebook:

How to clean my schoolbag?

Falling into a mud puddle, sliding all over the school bus and on top of it all, the apple juice in the side pocket leaks. A schoolbag has to endure a lot. Thus we recommend cleaning it thoroughly once a year. For example during the summer vacataion – so the schoolbag is nice and clean when school starts again. In this case, the kids can also help cleaning their schoolbag. Light soiling during the school year however can also be removed with less effort.

Light soiling:

  • First make sure to completely empty the schoolbag (do not forget smaller items such as timetable and ticket), open all pockets and zippers, turn the schoolbag around and shake it firmly out.
  • Dried mud, crumbs and sand can be brushed off with a soft brush; shoulder, back and hip padding should only be tapped off carefully.
  • Remove stains with a damp cloth and a gentle detergent.
  • Afterwards wipe with clear water and let it dry thoroughly.

When it comes to the yearly thorough schoolbag cleaning or when it comes to heavy soiling, a more elaborate hand wash is recommended at the latest.

In order to be able to clean the most difficult-to-reach corners as well, the interior base can easily be removed and the whole lining can be pulled inside-out.

Important: No matter how dirty the schoolbag is, it should never be cleaned in the washing machine or dish washer. When doing so, the colours could fade, the water-repellent cover be destroyed and plastic parts or the rail system could be damaged – and the warranty expires prematurely. Also when handwashing the schoolbag, only gentle detergents should be used.

Heavy soiling

  • First make sure to completely empty the schoolbag (do not forget smaller items such as timetable and ticket), open all pockets and zippers, turn the schoolbag around and shake it firmly out.
  • Dried mud, crumbs and sand can be brushed off with a soft brush; shoulder, back and hip padding should only be tapped off carefully.
  • Many models come with a removable interior base. The interior lining is partially attached to the body with hook and loop fasteners and can thus simply be pulled inside out.
  • Shortly shower the schoolbag with lukewarm water in the shower or bathtub.
  • Wash with a soft cloth and a gentle detergent.
  • When all stains are removed, carefully rinse the schoolbag with clear water and then put it upside down in the shower/batthub.
Turn the hose on! Soiling and stains can be removed with a gentle detergent.
  • After cleaning, the schoolbag can dry in an aery spot. Crumpled paper towels particularly in smaller pockets can help absorbing the dampness.
  • Only re-pack the schoolbag when it is completely dry.

Cleaning the accessories

Accesorries such as pencil case and sports bag do neither belong into the washing maching. Here applies as well: if any damages occur, the warranty expires prematurely.

  • Pencil case: the pencil cases should solely be wiped with a damp cloth and should not get too wet – they are partially reinforced with cardboard parts that could get soaked (this kind of damage is not covered by warranty).
  • Pencil pouch: These do not have any reinforcing parts and can – as the schoolbag – be cleaned with a damp cloth.
  • Sports bag: the sports bags do not dispose of an interionr lining, but some of a removable interior base. They can also be cleaned with a damp cloth.
  • Please note for Scout Safety Light: The LED lights of these models work with a powerbank that is attached on the inside of the schoolbags’ lid and must be removed before cleaning. Just as important is to protect the USB port and the cable from getting wet during cleaning!
